Obstetric Ultrasound Growth/Fetal Wellbeing
This ultrasound examination looks at how well a baby is growing. It will also assess the position of the baby. This examination may be repeated several times in the third trimester, particularly in the case of a multiple pregnancy.
Measurements are obtained during the examination and these are used to assess growth and fetal weight. The placenta will also be carefully examined, with measurement of blood flow through the cord with Doppler as well as assessment of the liquor fluid around the baby. These factors help to check on the function of the placenta and to assess fetal wellbeing.
Should you have any questions regarding the above information or your ultrasound examination please do not hesitate to ask the Sonographer or Dr Susan Winspear.
